Sean Carton Busts Social Media Myths at UMBC Social Media Strategic Summit
There are a lot of myths out there about social media marketing. Sean Carton intends to bust every one of them when he delivers the keynote address at UMBC’s Social Media Strategy Summit, a gathering of university communicators from across the Baltimore/Washington region.
Today, January 27, 2012 idfive’s Chief Creative Officer and noted author Dr. Sean Carton will kick off UMBC’s Social Media Strategy Summit by delivering his keynote address entitled“ Social Media: Myths and Realities.” In his talk he’ll trade barbs with “Bruce,” a fictional “social media expert,” countering Bruce’s jargon-filled “conventional wisdom” with facts and analysis derived from Carton’s 20 years in the digital communication and New Media industry.
“Not to put too fine a point on it,” says Carton, “but there’s a lot of BS out there about how companies and organizations should be using social media as part of their marketing mix. The purpose of my talk is to set the stage for UMBC’s Social Media Strategy Summit by tackling the BS head-on. My main goal is to make sure that the marketing and communication professionals attending the summit walk away from my talk with facts, strategies, and actionable tactics that they can use to get the most out of social media.”
UMBC’s Social Media Strategy Summit is a free, one day “unconference” where conference topics are organized by participants around concerns posted to the Summit blog prior to the conference. Proposed topics include multimedia content development and distribution, audience engagement, large-scale analytics tracking, and data-driven decision-making.
