Web & Marketing Manager

Based in Towson, Maryland, our client produces innovative, research-based educational products for teachers, including assessment tools, textbooks, training, and learning modules that support children’s health development and boost learning potential.

We’ve loved partnering with this client for the past decade, and we’re helping them fill a position that would ostensibly become our primary point of contact. You would work for our client and collaborate very closely with us to advance their mission and digital directives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of websites, email, and social media
  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for website improvements and enhancements, ensure synergy among web properties and promotions, and monitor e-commerce strategies as they are implemented
  • Collaborate with Marketing Managers to increase constituency engagement with web and social media properties, and retain and grow online audiences
  • Develop and implement email marketing strategies for customer acquisition and retention
  • Update and implement an Enterprise Social Media Strategy
  • Collaborate with team members to develop new web functionalities and recommend new technical features
  • Work with external vendors to research and implement technical solutions and new web or other electronic-based tools to better serve audiences
  • Maintain accuracy, style, format consistency, and branding
  • Conduct regular production meetings and manage an editorial / production calendar for posting content, online events, and other web initiatives
  • Oversee production and quality control for all websites
  • Ensure the quality of website content regarding site structure, navigation, and copy
  • Ensure web properties and tools reflect industry “best practices”
  • Use analytics software (e.g., Google Analytics, Convio, Exact Target, etc.) to understand online user experience and the effectiveness of email communications, and recommend enhancements and/or changes to campaigns
  • Work with external vendors to track emerging technologies and media trends that might be useful for better engaging targeted audiences
  • Manage relationships with web consultants and vendors, including overseeing delivery of goods and services and processing of invoices for payment
  • Create for approval and administer the web budget
  • Manage the production and mailing of all email-based communications
  • Assist with writing/co-writing, editing, and design of various newsletters, announcements, and other email messages, as needed
  • Write/adapt headlines, teaser text, promotional copy, blogs etc., as needed
  • Manage the database of subscribers to newsletters and other online communications vehicles
  • Other duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • 4-5 years experience managing content and production for high-traffic websites
  • Experience in managing or working on web production for education, nonprofit, business development, and/or publishing-oriented websites
  • Ability to use online publishing and database-driven content management systems for programming and reviewing web pages (WordPress experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with HTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, and web authoring environments
  • Expertise with online advocacy and email tools
  • Ability to use web analytics tools to monitor and report on data for editorial marketing, sales, and/or business development decision making
  • Proven ability to work with vendors to produce web enhancements and to troubleshoot and fix technical problems
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with individuals and cross-disciplinary teams, both internal and external
  • Flexible work style, positive attitude, and commitment to teamwork
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, exciting, and dynamic environment, managing multiple planned and unplanned projects
  • Acute attention to detail and dedication to quality assurance and follow-through
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with K-12 and higher education marketplaces is a plus but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree, graduate degree preferred
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of email marketing, XML, web services, W3C standards, cross-browser compatibility, and microinteractions
