As the first rollout of a multi-year, unified, enterprise-level Drupal CMS solution, the Howard Magazine showcases the best Howard University has to offer. Readers valued the print edition, making it a fixture on alumni coffee tables across the country. The digital version, however, was a little static. The Office of University Communications (OUC) wanted to engage readers in a digital space—and gauge alumni interest in the publication.
idfive first worked with the university to create, execute, and interpret an alumni survey about Howard Magazine. The resulting insights about content, platform preferences, and reader demographics influenced the design and set the stage for future enhancements.
Drawing on the insights developed from the alumni survey, idfive designed a website that highlights the magazine’s strengths: compelling features, great photography, and profiles of talented alumni, faculty, staff and students. We connected each article to a corresponding print issue, ensuring continuity across platforms. And we created new opportunities to generate revenue for the magazine and Howard University authors, so readers can support their peers—and their alma mater.
