D'Youville College Putting community first at a small college.

The Challenge

D’Youville College (DYC) is an independent Catholic college in Buffalo, New York with a student body of about 3,000. Working with idfive, the school wanted to create a new website that could enhance their brand, better promote a range of academic offerings beyond their well-known healthcare programs, and provide a quality user experience across all screen sizes.

Creating a site that would drive prospective student conversions and promote the college’s unique features required us to ask some questions about the audience: How do they use (or want to use) the site? How do users needs intersect with DYC’s offerings? How should the student experience be communicated to drive campus visits, requests for information, and ultimately enrollment?

The Solution

idfive conducted a comprehensive Discover360 process to illuminate the school’s core values, points of differentiation, and the internal and external challenges that stood in their way. During the research process a core differentiator was uncovered: DYC offers a supportive and caring community where a rigorous education is an essential element to achieving personal growth and contributing to the greater good. This insight informed the entire website creation process from information architecture and wireframes to design and copy.

The fundamentals of this DYC experience are featured prominently on the homepage: value, rigor, and care. A background video offers a window into life on campus and the student experience. Additionally, a “Program Finder” invites students to explore program offerings in an intuitive way that exposes the variety of courses of study at various academic levels. Whether the site is informing and guiding various visitors, conveying the DYC brand, or supporting student aspirations and driving them to act, each page has a purpose and makes an impact.
